Is there any public info on the numbers of UKRI-funded students in diff parts of the UK? Is there a report or anything you can direct me to? Or even let me know some basic numbers?

Under Section 21 - Information already reasonably accessible, of the FOIA the following information you have requested is already available in the public domain.
We have published information on the regional distribution of studentships, which can be found in the “Understanding the effect of UKRI stipend levels” report which is publicly accessible here[1]. Figure 2-4 on page 11 shows the breakdown of active UKRI-funded students in the 2023-24 academic year, by region.
Section 21 is an absolute exemption which means that there is no requirement to conduct a public interest test.
