Case reference FOI2020/00313

Request

Request Received: 22 September 2020

Following on from our correspondence last year, I was wondering if we could get one further piece of information from you as we are nearly ready to publish our results. You stated that as of 01/01/2019, there were 125 active clinical research training fellowships, of whom 14 were surgeons. Looking at your website such positions could be held by both pre- or post-doctoral candidates.

Do you have the breakdown of the number of these candidates were pre-doctoral, and the number that were post-doctoral as we are analysing fellowships by seniority.

I can confirm UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) hold the information relevant to your request. Please see the information below.

As of 01/01/2019, of the 125 active clinical research training fellowships, five were post-doctoral applicants. Of these, none reported a surgical speciality in their applications.

The remaining 120 clinical research training fellowships that were active as of 01/01/2019 were pre-doctoral applicants and, as you noted, fourteen of these reported a surgical speciality in their applications.
