Most of this information is already in the public domain. The British Geological Survey (BGS) has been part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) since April 2018 and prior to April 2018 the legal entity for BGS was the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) therefore the information you have requested can be found on the following pages:
-
UKRI 2018-December 2024: https://www.ukri.org/who-we-are/policies-standards-and-data/data-collections/financial-data/
-
NERC 2011-2018: https://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ukgwa/20191031123610/https://nerc.ukri.org/about/policy/foi/staff/#xcollapse2
The data relating to BGS can be identified by searching/filtering on BGS.
The data for January to March 2025 is held but is not yet available and is exempt from disclosure under Section 22(1) of the FOIA as it is intended for publication in future, in the same way as previous months. Section 22 is a qualified exemption meaning that it is subject to the public interest test.
We consider that premature release would put undue pressure on BGS to publish the data outside of the scheduled timeframes which would lead to a disproportionate burden on the organisation. This would not be in the public interest. We have therefore determined that the outcome of this test is that the public interest is insufficient to justify immediate disclosure. This information is likely to be available by September 2025.
