1. How many applications to the Biomedical Catalyst were received in 2020/21?

229 applications scored above 70 and were recommended for funding by assessors.
3. How many applications to the Biomedical Catalyst in 2020/21 received funding?
18 applications were awarded funding.
4. What score threshold was required for applications to receive funding in 2020/21?
The 2020 round of the Biomedical Catalyst had a two-stage assessment process. 36 top-scoring applications progressed to the Major Awards Committee (MAC) interviews and a portfolio approach was adopted for this. Applications required a score above 83.4 to gain entry to the MAC1 (Therapeutics) Panel, and 84.2 to move forward to the MAC2 (MedTech & Diagnostics) Panel. The interview committee proceeded to rank projects from each panel and 9 were chosen from each panel to be funded on the basis of this rank.
5. What is the total value of applications that scored over 70% but that were not funded in 2020/21?
The total grant funding sought by the 211 applicants that scored over 70% and were recommended for funding but were unsuccessful was £223,764,935. The total project value of these 211 applications was £304,791,099
