Dear British Geological Survey, I would like to request access to the data set for water wells and springs in Fife Scotland, particularly those in proximity to Post Code KY8 4HS

Thank you for your request made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Because it concerns environmental information we have considered it under the Environmental Information Regulations 2004.
The information you have requested is already publicly available via the GeoIndex https://www.bgs.ac.uk/map-viewers/geoindex-onshore/. Open the GeoIndex, type your postcode into the search box that says 'enter location' and then 'Add data'. Add both the 'borehole records' and the 'water wells' layers. The water wells layer indicates which records hold water data and the borehole records layer enables you to link through to the pdf scan of that record so that you can view the data.
Springs have not been systematically recorded, so although there are some records of springs in this data it is not comprehensive. Other organisations such as the Ordnance Survey also record springs.
If you need the data in a shapefile format for use in a GIS then please contact our usual service for supplying data at digitaldata@bgs.ac.uk using a private email address. Our data licencing and delivery teams will be able to arrange an agreement under which we can supply this data to you.
It is possible that there are some new records that have not yet been added to the dataset and made publicly available via the viewer. If you can let us know the distance from postcode KY8 4HS that you are interested in we can see if there are any records within that area that are not on the viewer. If there is anything in particular that you are looking for in the data we will be able to advise you better if you can tell us what that is.
