  1. Request Received: 1 November 2023

Under the FOIA, can I have a list of all the projects funded by UKRI over the last 10 years, the Challenge Director guidelines and funding therein, the demographic makeup and socio-economic makeup of the winners and applicants please.

    Clarification Received: 7 November 2023

UKRI implements a process of portfolio grant awards. It is stated on the website that the Challenge Director of each grant sets the portfolio approach based on the Strategic objectives of UKRI and the UK government. The Challenge Director would or should have guidelines on what these strategic guidelines are, what proportion to allocate to each area of interest/investment, how to apply this policy and how to publish the same. There should be processes and guidelines to follow for the Challenge Director.

Additional Information Requested: 8 November 2023

May I also trouble you to confirm that the FOIA requests pertaining to the UKRI assessment processes will be made available please.

    • How a Challenge Director is chosen.

    • How a Challenge Director or grant runner is given strategic objectives

    • How the assessors are audited to ensure consistency and standards of assessment

    • How the successful applicants are chosen if not simply on assessed marks

    • Assessor guidance and training

    • The Internal UKRI review process post grant ground being completed

    • The UKRI strategic objectives and commercial objectives

    • The demographics and socio-economic background of the successful applicants

    • The Objectives of the Net Zero Directors and UKRI Objectives in this regard

  6. Request Received: 2 November 2023

I'm not sure if ref.ac.uk is meant to respond to FOI requests, but for the purposes of research into consistency of academic judgements I'd like to request the following:

For the outputs submitted in UoA 4, the independent ratings of reviewers prior to consulting with one another, and the agreed rating of reviewers. I'm only interested in the correlation of ratings and how they relate to the agreed rating. There would be no information about the identity of the outputs or the identity of the reviewers.

For example, for a set of 100 outputs with 2 reviewers, this would mean a table of 100 rows and 3 columns, the 3 columns being: rating of reviewer1, rating of reviewer2, agreed rating. From this information, nothing can be learned or inferred about individual outputs or individual reviewers.

NO information is requested about the identity of the outputs or the identity of the reviewers.
