Follow up to FOI2022/00366 - recognition vouchers

Would you be able to provide information on the number and value of the recognition vouchers provided to employees over this period? I.e. not payments to Edenred. There should be no commercially sensitive information in this part of my request as it strictly relates to the rewards policy within the organisation, which is obviously in the public's interest, given it is taxpayers who will be paying for these rewards and deserve to be able to scrutinise them.

The vast majority of organisations that I have requested this information from have obliged, to the extent that Edenred's commercial interests would not be further impacted by the release of the information.

Hello, I'd like to make a Freedom of Information request about information which is reference in the below screenshot. This comes from a document used in a High Court case in 2009 when 1,011 nuclear test veterans attempted to sue the Ministry of Defence for criminal negligence. As you will see from para 411, it states that Prof H John Evans a former director of the Medical Research Council, wrote a letter to Dr David James also of the MRC on January 24, 1984. He refers to having blood samples sent to MRC for analysis, the analysis was delayed, and then later carried out showing chromosomal abnormalities in some of the subjects.

    My request is for:

    1. A copy of this letter, in its entirety

    2. Details of how many blood samples were received by Prof Evans at MRC about a year before this letter was written, in what format they were held (specimen tubes, on ice, on slides), and what subsequently happened to them, ie are they retained or destroyed, and if so, when, where and on whose instructions.

    3. Any documents the MRC holds about the results of the chromosomal analysis that was undertaken, and to whom copies may have been provided.

    4. If possible, and within the cost limits, an indication of whether the subjects of these tests were informed of the results.

I have examined the UKRI Competitive Funding Decisions data tables which are very helpfully published from 2015/16 on your website. However, I would also like to be sighted on the equivalent data relating to projects that were not successful.

I would therefore like to request under FOI for each Financial Year starting from 2015/16 a list of the awards/applications that were not successful, and ideally including:

    • The FY decision date

    • The UKRI Council

    • Grant Category applied for

    • Any reference

    • Project title

    • Award value sought

    • Organisation

    • Lead status

    1. How much in government grants and investment was given to NAM research for 2021 and also 2022 and how much has been earmarked for 2023. The figure given out in a Ministers response to the Shadow Minister for DEFRA was £100 million since 2004 but that equates to less than £6 million a year.

    2. How much money has the government granted or invested in animal testing via grants, donations, vat relief etc. in 2021 and also 2022 and how much has been earmarked for 2023?

    3. An additional question resulting from a reply that Tom Tugendhat gave to Chi Onwurah in a written answer today.

    He said:

"The Government continues to actively support and fund the development and dissemination of the 3Rs. This is achieved through UK Research and Innovation who fund the National Centre for the 3Rs and research into the development of alternatives through Innovate UK, the Medical Research Council, and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council:

    a. Could you provide 3 examples of how your funding has developed any kind of alternatives to animal testing because I have looked through the Innovate UK website and published papers and I can find no reference to alternatives either achieved or in their forthcoming plans.

    b. And as for the Biological Sciences Research Council they say "The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) supports the continued use of animals in scientific research, but only when strict conditions are met: applicants must provide sound scientific justification in their funding application for the use of animals" I'm afraid this is not very encouraging that they have a commitment into looking at NAM's .

    Clarification requested: 26 January 2023

Please could you clarify what the acronym 'NAM' means?

Clarification received on 27 January 2023: NEW APPROACH METHODOLOGIES or NON ANIMAL METHODS
