Request

Request received: 10 February 2026

  1. Please supply all documentation setting out the full breakdown of the budget for the Science and Technology Facilities Council for each financial year, since the creation of UK Research and Innovation in 2018, including the international subscriptions, the running costs of each domestic and international facility within STFC, staff costs, and the resource grants awarded each year for astronomy, nuclear and particle physics.

  2. Please supply all documentation and correspondence, including decision papers seen by the STFC executive and Science Board, relating to the removal of the protections in the STFC budget for astronomy, nuclear and particle physics grants, from facilities costs and exchange rate fluctuations for international subscriptions. These were introduced in around 2008 by the then science minister Lord Drayson and we understand that they were removed around a decade ago.

  3. Please supply all documentation and correspondence relating to discussions on restructuring UKRI, which we understand took place in 2024 and 2025.
