Request

Request received: 14 April 2026

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. I am requesting the following financial information from the Science and Technology Facilities Council:

Initial indicative budgets for both resource (including staff and non-staff resource) and capital, for FY 23/24, 24/25, 25/26 and 26/27, broken down per department (or equivalent organizational unit).

Response

I can confirm that UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) does hold information relevant to your request.

The information you have requested is provided in Annex 1 attached with this response. Please note the following about the information that has been provided:

·       The figures from FY 23/24 up to and including FY 25/26 are taken from STFC's internal management accounts in March for the year in question and reflect the final approved STFC allocations for that year. .

·       The FY 26/27 budget setting process is still in progress. High-level departmental budgets have been finalised at resource and capital level, and this information has been provided at Annex 1. The breakdown requested for resource, for staff and non-staff, is not yet available, the budget setting process is expected to conclude in late mid-June.

·       Internal management accounting headings for STFC have changed over time as new departments have been set up, for example National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC), and the Skills Centre.

·       The treatment of the National Laboratory salary control accounts has changed over the period your request relates to and differs depending on the year in question. In some years the control accounts sat under the heading NL Exec Salaries Control and for some they are reported under the department. For budgeting purposes this has a marginal impact, as in principle the control accounts net to zero.
